Solution for the man-made pollution
Fortunately, concern about light pollution
is rising dramatically. Each of us can help to tackle the light pollution by
some practical solutions individually, nationally and internationally which are
mentioned above.
i. Reduce abuse of outdoor lights. Encouraging public to use lighting reasonably, turn off or even do not set up those lights which are not in use can simply achieve the target. There are some possible way for Hong Kong government and organizations too, which are turning off the neon signboards on the streets at midnight, reducing the hours of road lights in country party and decorative lights in Tsim Sha Tsui and on Tsing Ma Bridge.
ii. Choose astronomical-friendly light sources, like low pressure sodium lamp. Those kinds of lamps are better for astronomical observations, as the emission lines of them can be easier emit by filers. Thus, astronomers can stargaze more conveniently and lower down the level of light pollution.
iii. Learn the facts about light pollution. Learn how to recognize fixtures that are well-designed, dark sky friendly and efficient.
iv. Share the message to others. Sharing the values and effectiveness of quality outdoor lighting as well as the pollution problem to the public, companies, government officials, and lightening professionals is an important part of combating light pollution.
