What
is Light Pollution?
Light pollution is not a new phenomenon
that is associated with cities and towns in the recent decades. According to International
Dark-Sky Association, light pollution is excessive and inappropriate artificial
light, including light that creates sky glow, glare, light trespass, light
clutter, decreasing visibility at night and energy waste. There are 4 main
types of light pollution.
- Urban sky glow – the
brightening of the night sky over cities.
- Light trespass – the unwanted
or unneeded light falling.
- Glare – excessive brightness
which causes visual discomfort.
- Clutter – the bright and
confusing groupings of lights.
